GROWING INTO A LEADER SERIES | PART 3
By Elvis C. Umez | Leadership Consultant, IDB Consult
The common attraction that many people have in following a particular pioneer leader who is believed to have the capacity to cause the needed transformation in their life is contingent upon the need to discover and fulfil purpose within a record. So, all the activities that go on in the process are geared towards ensuring that the individuals are properly equipped and deployed in their specific spheres of influence. And this entire process that begins the transformation can be sequenced into five phases characterized by certain observable indicators so that growth and development in that direction could be tracked.
In the Part 2 of this series, I briefly described the four stages and how an individual could keep track of the transformation process by paying attention to certain changes that surround the needs of the leadership within time and space. However, in this Part 3, I shall focus on describing the progressive phases so you can keep track of yourself as you transit in following the pioneer leader of your choice.
Meanwhile, in the Part 1 of this series, I outlined that there are five phases of growth and development that everyone in the leadership cycle must go through before emerging as a leader, which I will be briefly describing in the subheadings below.
Inspiration Phase
This is the first phase that serves as the precursor for the decision for you to begin to follow a pioneer leader of your choice. It is characterized by a sudden realization that something needs to be done in order for you move forward in life. It usually comes a spark, illumination, and a conviction of truth. It is parallel to the following stage.
Discovery Phase
This is second progressive phase characterised with an onset of discovering your leadership purpose, which is a fraction of your overall life’s purpose. This discovery is progressive and requires you to take account of what has been discovered from time to time. It is at this phase that you will realize the essence of life and your role in it. it is parallel to the discovery stage.
Equipment Phase
As the third progressive phase, it is the toughest of all the phases, because it is a drilling phase where you will have to unlearn a lot of your leadership preconceived notions, learn the new leadership ideology best suited for your design and relearn the things you missed after having failed in carrying some assigned tasks. The purpose of this phase is to help you develop a cutting edge leadership paradigm after your innate potentials are awakened, released and put to use towards solving specific problems according to your design. It is parallel to the collaborating stage.
Deployment Phase
This is fourth progressive phase that has two sub-phases, which are: 1. Launching out trial and 2. Launching out proper. You are given opportunities to try out all the things you have learned to either fail or succeed. The trial sub-phase comes with a unique challenge, because you will fail many times so you can tighten all the loose knots. On the other hand, launching proper sub-phase comes with a lot of recorded successes, which show that you are ready for the main deal. This phase is parallel to the leading stage.
Achievement Phase
This is the pioneer leader’s phase where you begin to raise and transform others into their ideal selves within a record time using well thought out system structure framework. You will observe that a lot of people will become swayed by your achievements, and would desire to just follow you, many of whom you may not need in your life. However, your ability to discern who to be part of your leadership cycle will largely determine how fast you will move from point A to B within a record time.
However, beyond reading these descriptions of these phases, there is need for you to be sure of your specific phase so you can be able to translate all you have read from this series in effective and efficient leadership within the spheres of your abilities. You can send me a direct message to begin the assessment. I will be glad to be your personal leadership strategist.
