UNDERSTANDING PURPOSE
Without purpose nothing will exist. Many of us believe that life has a purpose, and of course it is true. Contrariwise, some have argued that there is no such thing, which is also understandable. I believe that my life is fundamentally given to address two things, purpose and leadership. And each of these two things cannot do without the other because for every leadership, there is a purpose; and for every purpose, leadership. So, in this essay and the subsequent ones, I will endeavor to seek to use acceptable words to help you understand purpose, how and why it cannot be divorced from leadership.
We cannot talk about purpose without first of speaking about design, and we cannot speak about design without making reference to a designer. Sequel to that, here are a few questions that I need you to answer: Do you think that your life has a purpose? Do you believe that that purpose is according to your design? Do you also believe that someone designed you just the way you are so you can accomplish a purpose? If all of your answers are “yes”, then there is need to answer a few other questions: What is your purpose in life really? How did you come about it? If your response is also yes, then there are still another: Are you fulfilling that purpose? Can you die for what you call your purpose? Could you do without that purpose?
Let us take for instance that life is likened to a computer, do you think that a computer will be without a creator? A computer has three important aspects, which are hardware, software, and the purpose for the hardware and software. Another thing is that, for the computer to be relevant, the user must be armed with the necessary information on how to integrate the hardware and software in the direction of the reason it was designed via the user interface. Looking further, for every hardware there is a designer and for every software, a programmer. Hence, it is the designer that determines the function of hardware, never the computer. Also, it is the programmer that determines the purpose of the programs.
Furthermore, every computer is designed to run in an environment called operating system (OS), which allows the user access, in order to utilize the functions of the hardware and software. Put in other words, life is the operating system of man, without which none of us can be relevant. However, could the OS come into existence as result of evolution or big bang? Of course not! The OS of every computer is a masterpiece from an intelligence designer. Seeing the consistency of that parallel, could you also argue that life is the product of an evolution or big bang? Of course not!
Could it be said that the computer will have a mind of its own outside of the purpose determined by the designer? Well, yes, but on two conditions, unless it has been hacked and/or infected by a virus, which affords another control over it. With this, you can now begin to understand why it looks as if you believe you can be anything all by yourself. The truth is, you could be hacked or infected by a virus that can alter the purpose you were designed to fulfill within time and space? Wait! But do you think you have been hacked already? Who is this hacker? To find out, be on the lookout for more essays on Understanding Purpose.
